Ellen’s Game of Games, also known as Game of Games and stylized as ellen’s GAME OF GAMES, is an American television game show that aired on NBC. In March 2017, NBC ordered six (later eight) hour-long episodes of the series. Ellen DeGeneres serves as host, while Stephen ’tWitch’ Boss appears as announcer/sidekick. The series is based on game segments from DeGeneres’ daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The series premiered on December 18, 2017. In each episode, contestants are selected to play in one of four preliminary games. The winner of each game advances to the semi-final round to play ’Know or Go’. The last remaining player will play the ’Hot Hands/Hotter Hands’ game for a chance to win $100,000.Preliminary games[edit]
Most of the games listed have been a part of the series since the first season of the show unless otherwise specified in the description. Games like ’Make it Rain’ and ’Tuba Toothpaste’ were later replaced.
*Aw Snap!: Standing back to back, two to two contestants are connected to opposite ends of a bungee cord and must each attempt to retrieve five apples in their respective colors (green or red) from a row of stands in front of them. They may only use their mouths and teeth to hold the apples. The first contestant to move all five apples into a scoring basket wins. In Season 2, Episode 12 the game was played in teams of twin sisters, but only one twin played while the other was watching.
*Blindfolded Musical Chairs: Five contestants (later 4 in season 3) are chosen to play this game and are blindfolded. The contestants dance around until the music stops and must find a randomly placed stool to sit on to stay in the game. Ellen will press a button to determine where the chairs will appear on the dancefloor. As in musical chairs, the contestant who is unable to seat themselves is eliminated. After four (later 3) rounds, the last contestant to survive the round advances to play Know or Go.
*Buckin’ Blasters (Seasons 3-4): Two contestants mount giant cannons and must shoot their opponent’s three portraits to win. In Master Blaster. While the contestants control when to fire the cannon, Ellen will control the cannons from her podium to mess with their aiming ability. When a contestant’s portrait is hit, their cannon will spin like crazy. The first contestant who shoots all three of their opponent’s portraits advances to Know or Go. If time runs out, the contestant who shoots more of their opponent’s portraits wins. If there is a tie, a sudden death round is played, in which the portraits are reset, and the first contestant to shoot one of their opponent’s portraits wins.
*Burst of Knowledge (Season 4): Three contestants stand around a triangular platform. One contestant at a time answers questions while standing over a slowly inflating balloon filled with shaving cream; a correct answer ends their turn and allows them to pass the balloon to the next person in line. When the balloon pops, the contestant holding it is sprayed with the contents and eliminated. The remaining two play again to determine the winner.
*Danger Word: Similar to the game show Password, played with two teams of two. One person on each team is shown a ’winning word’; they alternate giving one-word clues to their partners. A team earns a strike (and a spray from a cannon) if the opposing team guesses correctly or if they guess a ’danger word’ related to the winning word. The team is also assessed a strike if the clue giver gives an illegal clue (such as a two-word clue, or giving any form of either word to the receiver. A team with three strikes is eliminated, and one member of the winning team advances. In Season 3, Episode 1 Ellen and tWitch become the partners for two audience members.
*Dirty Laundry (Season 3): In this game which debuted in Season 3, two teams of two are conjoined inside of a huge shirt and are given three clues to what the host is describing. The teams then must grab their color corresponding ball and throw it into the giant washing machine. The first team to do so gets the choice of either answering the question or passing it to the other team. The first team that gets three points wins the game and must choose one player to advance to play Know or Go. A similar game debuted on the Australian version of the show, except that there are questions in this.
*Dizzy Dash: Contestants are asked a trivia question. They are then spun around in chairs and must run to a podium and grab a ball from it before they can answer. The first to correctly answer three questions advances to play Know or Go. In the Christmas special, this game is also known as ’Dizzy Dasher’.
*Don’t Leave Me Hanging: Three contestants are suspended in harnesses and take turns naming things which fit a given category, receiving a strike if they give an incorrect answer, repeat an answer previously given or take too long to respond. A contestant with three strikes is eliminated and launched to the top of the studio.
*Great Taj Mah Wall (Seasons 3-4): Slightly similar to Don’t Leave Me Hanging, five contestants are strapped behind 5 walls. Ellen will then reveal a picture with many images for about 10 seconds. Then each player randomly take turns saying an image in the picture. However, if a player says an incorrect image or an image already said, or takes too long, they will be eliminated and blasted through the walls.
*Heads Up! (Season 4): Two pairs of contestants are chosen. One contestant in each pair is shown a series of words on monitors above and behind their partner’s head and must get their partner to guess them, scoring one point each. The giver may use verbal clues for the first 30 seconds, but must only gesture for the next 60 seconds. The receiver may pass as often as desired. The higher-scoring pair sends one member to Know or Go.
*If I Could Turn Back Slime (Season 4): 3 contestants will have 60 seconds to do a certain task. The clock stops for any competitor who finishes the task. If a contestant fails to complete the task before their time expires, they will get slime poured on them. Once all contestants have either completed the task or been slimed, a new task is given to the contestants, who must complete the task within their remaining time. The last contestant with time left on their clock wins.
*In Your Face, Honey (Season 1): Two teams of couples compete. One member from each team of two attempts to throw a ball as close to a target as possible. Each team have two attempts, the team with the most points decides who will advance.
*Knockin’ Boots (Seasons 2-3): A similar game to Don’t Leave Me Hanging and also Song Association - Ellen, where contestants answer questions about songs with one primary word. If Ellen does not believe the song has the word either in the title or in the song, the contestant gets a strike. Three strikes and then they will face being kicked by the boot above them. *Make It Rain! (Seasons 1, 4): Two contestants answer trivia questions for turns at pulling down an umbrella. Several umbrellas are filled with water; one has a $10,000 cash prize and the right to advance. This game does not appear in seasons 2-3, but it came back in season 4 with no cash prize and an umbrella filled with confetti.
*Master Blaster (Season 1): Three contestants on harnesses have to compete to solve a jigsaw-style puzzle. The losing contestants are ’blasted’ into the air.
*Mazed & Confused (Seasons 3-4): Two players are sent into a giant mirror maze and must find their color corresponding orb, then bring it back to the original exit and place it upon a podium, while trying to avoid several traps and scares along the way. If a player exits through the incorrect door, they need to go back inside and exit through their correct exit point. First player to complete the task will advance to Know or Go. In Season 3, Episode 5 the contestants have to find their twin holding the ball to move on to Know or Go.
*Mt. Saint Ellen (Seasons 2-4): Three contestants climb a mountain which tilts and shakes, and some climbing ropes are not attached. The first contestant to collect three diamonds advances.
*Name Dropper (Season 4): Slightly similar to See Ya Later Alligator and Dirty Laundry, three contestants are strapped on an indoor roller coaster, then Ellen reads text messages from one of her celebrity friends. The contestants have to guess who that celebrity is. If the contestant guesses correctly, they pick who to send up the track, but if they guess incorrectly they’ll get sent up the track, and if a contestant already reaches the maximum height of the ride they’ll be eliminated and dropped from the top of the ride.
*Oh Ship! (Seasons 2-4): Contestants are asked multiple-choice questions and race to holes corresponding to the choices. Incorrect holes spray water in the players’ faces. The first to collect three correct answers advances. In episode 12 of Season 3, a female contestant named Jazmine won Oh Ship!, breaking the men’s winning streak.
*One-Eyed Monster (Seasons 1-2): Contestants standing inside the jaws of a giant prop monster must pull its removable teeth for wrong answers; one tooth will cause the jaws to close, eliminating the contestant. If the contestant answered incorrectly, they had to pull as many teeth as the margin of error. A correct answer ended the turn without pulling any teeth. In season 2, the contestant in control predicts how many of 100 audience members said yes to a survey question, and the opponent guesses whether the actual number was higher or lower (similar to the game show Card Sharks). A correct high/low guess sends the contestant in control to the jaws, while a miss sends the opponent instead.
*Runaway Bride(Season 3): Slightly similar to Mt. Saint Ellen, the players are in dresses and are on a treadmill trying to stay on the treadmill while getting 3 slices of cake onto their plate. Obstacles like a bell and two spinners will get in their way, and there’ll be slices of sandwiches and cheese flying at them as well, and whoever gets 3 cakes first advances.
*Say Whaaat?: Two teams will wear headphones with loud music. They must relay a message using lip reading, earning points based on the number of words in their answer compared to the original phrase. The team with the most points chooses one member to advance if both teams get the same number of words correct, they must do it again. The game is based on Telephone/Chinese Whispers.
*Scary-Go-Round (Seasons 1-2): Contestants take turns moving three large balls across a series of rotating platforms while their opponent launches balls to impede them. The contestant with the fastest time advances. If the contestants finish it in the same amount of time, they must do it again. From season 2, the game is played with teams of two.
*See Ya Later, Alligator (Seasons 2-4): Four players are shown pictograms; the first to correctly state the phrase they make up gets to eliminate an opponent. The last person left advances.
*Son of a One-Eyed Monster (Seasons 2-3): Slightly similar to Make it Rain!, the host reads a list of words and the first contestant to correctly state what they have in common gets to choose one of eight giant eggs. One of the eggs allows the contestant to advance; the others spew slime on the contestant. An incorrect guess allows the opponent to hear two more words before guessing. *Tuba Toothpaste (Season 1): Answering a trivia question incorrectly requires a contestant to press up to 3 of 10 buttons that resemble tuba valves. One button blasts toothpaste into the contestant’s face and eliminates them.
*You Bet Your Wife: Normally played with two players to compete. One player will be hooked into a harness above a pool of food while one player to represent their team as bidders. The bidders will be given a topic question and asked how many items of that topic can their partner in the harness give. In alternating fashion, the bidders will give their guess as to how many items corresponding to the list can their partner name. The opposing team bidder will either counter that bid with a higher bid or challenge the prior team to give that many correct answers. *For Season 1, a contestant drops when they get a question wrong. The last contestant standing moves on to Hot Hands.
*For Seasons 2-3, the game shifts to ’Sudden Drop’ rules when only two contestants remain. If one contestant misses a question, the opponent can eliminate them by giving the correct answer. If the opponent misses as well, the game continues.

Raw hands per hour when actually being dealt in is like 90 per hour for 6-max and 75 per hour for 9-max. However, unless you are staying on the same table and playing for hours, lower numbers are more realistic.
What they fail to take into account that some of the time that you are sitting at a table you are not being dealt in. Hands dealt per hour does not include time players spend getting on and off the tables and sitting and waiting on big blinds. Therefore, actual hands played per hour is what you should use when trying to figure out your hourly win-rate.What About Hands Per Hour in Live Games?
Live dealt in numbers tend to be much closer to reality since there is no multi-tabling and a player will typically stay at the same table for hours. Even so, the number of hands played per hour is still much lower than online.
Hands per hour in live games can range anywhere from 20 to 30. Besides almost exclusively being 9 or 10 handed, it takes time for the dealer to shuffle and deal. That leaves little time to actually playing poker. I have a ton of respect for the patience and mental toughness of live grinders. Aggressive Table Selection Affects Hands per Hour
The longer you stay on a table the more hands per hour you are dealt. This is because you have to pull up a new table, sit down, and then wait for the big blinds. This takes time. Therefore, switching games often lowers your hands per hour.
Now I am not saying you should stop game selecting. In today’s tough poker environment, robust table selection is how money is made. One way to remedy this issue and still maintain your desired number of hands per hour is to just add one more table. I have noticed a direct correlation between the maximum number of tables allowed on a site to how many hands per hour is played. This is due to mass multi-tablers, who tend to time bank often and hold up the games.
For example, Bovada and Ignition also only allow 4 cash game tables to be played at once. WPN still allows people to play 24 tables at the same time. So unless you are at least a 6bb/100 winner playing one or two tables, I would not even consider trying to maximize your hands per hour yet. Your growth as a poker player is much more important than trying to increase your hourly rate.

Let’s fix two ranks, say 2 and 8. How many ways can we have three of 2 and two of 8? We are choosing 3 cards out of the four 2’s and choosing 2 cards out of the four 8’s. That would be = 4 x 6 = 24. But the two ranks can be other ranks too. How many ways can we pick two ranks out of 13? That would be 13 x 12 = 156. So the total number of possibilities for Full House is

Flush
There are = 1,287 possible hands with all cards in the same suit. Recall that there are only 10 straight flush on a given suit. Thus of all the 5-card hands with all cards in a given suit, there are 1,287-10 = 1,277 hands that are not straight flush. Thus the total number of flush hands is 4 x 1277 = 5,108.
Straight
There are 10 five-consecutive sequences in 13 cards (as shown in the explanation for straight flush in this section). In each such sequence, there are 4 choices for each card (one for each suit). Thus the number of 5-card hands with 5 cards in sequence is . Then we need to subtract the number of straight flushes (40) from this number. Thus the number of straight is 10240 – 10 = 10,200.
Three of a Kind

Tears would well up in his spectral blue eyes as he recalled the sting of those words—tears sprung not from fear but from rage and humiliation.
Doc Holliday, gambler, gunman, and sometime dentist of the American West. He is perhaps best known for joining the Earp brothers in their celebrated gunfight (1881) with the Clanton gang at the O.K. Doc graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery on March 1st, 1872, not the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, an error mistakenly repeated by many authors. By that night of July 21, 1884, Doc Holliday’s life in Leadville, Colo., had swung out of plumb. Pneumonia had laid him low on three or four occasions since he’d tossed his satchel onto the railroad platform of the carbonate camp two years earlier, and tuberculosis that had been in remission while he breathed the dry and salubrious air of New Mexico and Arizona territories had flared again, ravaging a body already scarred by chronic battles with the disease. When he got back on his feet, he was no longer the man he had been. Illness, an addiction to alcohol and an increasing dependence on opium had cost him steady employment as a faro dealer at the Monarch saloon, one of the more popular watering holes and a favored gathering place for gamblers in a town full of speculators, highfliers and fortune’s fools.
During his years in Arizona, from 1880 to 1882, John Henry Holliday had kept pace with men in the prime of health, but then he’d been forced to take refuge in the Rockies, fleeing Tombstone, Cochise County and the territory with the Earp brothers, ahead of a murder charge. The political influence of friends and associates kept him safe from extradition, but only so long as he remained within the borders of Colorado. Perhaps an excess of good health—relative good health, at least—caused him to ignore the risks inherent in Leadville’s bitter climate, perils of pulmonary complications about which even a local tourist guide issued warnings. There was not a more alluring half acre in the mountain state for a man who could live only by his nimble fingers and nimbler wits.
Once exiled from the Monarch, Holliday had to scrape by as an independent operator in other gambling rooms along Harrison Avenue, known simply as “the Avenue.” The Board of Trade, across the street, and Hyman’s Place, two doors down the block, at 316 Harrison, became his headquarters. It must have been especially galling for Holliday to watch two old adversaries prosper. In Tombstone he had belonged to a clique of gamblers called “the Easterners,” men who’d cut their teeth in the cattle towns of Kansas and Texas and the mining town of Deadwood, up in Dakota Territory. Opposing them in Arizona Territory was another group, “the Slopers,” who’d worked the mining camps on the Pacific slope of the Continental Divide during the 1870s. The Easterners, in the persons of Wyatt Earp, Luke Short and Holliday, had controlled the most lucrative games in Tombstone, turning aside all efforts by the Slopers to run them off. The factional struggle had reached a climax in February 1881, when Short killed the Slopers’ hired gun, Charlie Storms. Victory lay with Holliday’s side, but his enemies were not about to accept defeat with grace.
The leader of the Slopers was John Tyler, a 45-year-old native of Texas. He had emigrated from Tombstone after failing in his ambition to become the kingpin among the gamblers there and had settled in Leadville no later than May 1882, two and a half months before Holliday’s arrival. Tyler’s sidekick, Tom Duncan, may have come up from Tombstone with the head Sloper, but if not, followed soon after. Duncan’s first act was to become the pimp for one of Leadville’s leading madams, Mollie Price, but by July 1884, he had succeeded in polishing his reputation and had taken a job as a bartender at the Monarch, where he was busy ingratiating himself with the co-owners, Cy Allen and Alexander Scott. Tyler was employed there in Holliday’s old position, as a faro dealer, despite the fact that he had been fired from another gaming house in town for stealing from the cash drawer.
The logical question is: Why would Scott and Allen have hired him? The logical answer: He could be deadly when crossed. John Tyler had killed a man in San Francisco, and he had a history of using intimidation to gain his ends. In Tombstone he had tried to break up the games of rival gamblers at the fashionable Oriental saloon, and he and Holliday clashed there on October 10, 1880. Only the intervention of mutual friends had prevented a pistol duel between the two. Tyler had certainly not forgotten that day, and by the summer of 1884, he and his gang in Leadville were confident of their strength and Holliday’s weakness. That was reinforced by Holliday’s humiliating retreat on the night of July 21 from Hyman’s.
Holliday had borrowed $5 from an ex-Leadville policeman named Billy Allen, a bartender and special officer at the Monarch, a position that gave him the right to carry a gun and make arrests on the premises. Allen worked with Tyler and Duncan and was a member of their gang. Holliday was laggard in repaying what he owed Allen. In fact, he was nearly busted, his jewelry already in hock. Allen cornered him in the Monarch on Friday, August 15, 1884, and told him to pony up by noon on August 19 or else. The “or else” was a promise at the very least to thrash him—a promise Allen, a robust man fully 50 pounds heavier than 33-year-old Holliday, could easily have kept—or at the worst to kill him.
Doc Holliday was acutely aware of the danger he was in as August 19 dawned, his creditor still unsatisfied. Keeping gambler’s hours, Holliday had gone to bed at 5 in the morning and did not awaken until 3 in the afternoon—well past the deadline set for repaying the $5. Knowing that Allen was thick with the thieves at the Monarch, Holliday believed the debt would serve as a convenient pretext for his enemies to put him out of the way once and for all. He would later call Allen a “tool of the gang.”How Did Dr Holiday Die
Holliday left his room in the Star Block, a building located at 405 Harrison Ave., shortly after 3 p.m. He came upon a gambler named Pat Sweeney, who told him Allen had been to Hyman’s earlier that afternoon and was armed. Upon hearing this news, Holliday hiked back up the stairs to his second-floor room and may have concealed his revolver about his person, or he may have entrusted it to Sweeney or to a close friend and fellow boarder, Frank Lomeister, to carry to Hyman’s—testimony on this point is inconclusive. He then sent Lomeister to find Marshal Harvey Faucett or Captain Ed Bradbury of the Leadville Police Department and seek their aid.
En route to Hyman’s, Holliday bumped into Faucett himself in front of Sands & Pelton’s clothing store at 312 Harrison. He explained his predicament to the marshal, asking if Allen really was a special policeman. Sensing Holliday’s apprehension that this appointment would permit Allen to walk the streets armed, Faucett answered that even though Allen was a special, he had no right to carry a gun outside of the Monarch. Holliday then made a strange statement: “I’ll get a shotgun and shoot him on sight.” Strange, because it showed intent—to the city marshal, no less—to commit a crime in Colorado, and it was Holliday’s lawful conduct in this sanctuary that guaranteed he would not be extradited to Arizona Territory. There, he would have to stand trial for the Tucson train yard murder of Frank Stilwell on March 20, 1882—if Holliday’s sworn enemies did not assassinate him first. Events strongly suggest this remark showed Holliday’s desperate state of mind, but if he was carrying a concealed weapon and therefore liable to a fine he could not afford to pay, it may also have been disingenuous and intended to forestall the marshal’s searching him. Whatever the full intent, it alerted Faucett to a prickly situation. He set off posthaste to find Billy Allen. He entered the Monarch shortly thereafter, but Allen had just left.Doc Holliday Disease
Holliday shuffled through the double glass doors into Hyman’s and made sure his revolver was placed behind the bar, close by the lighter on the cigar case next to it. Versions differ as to the caliber of the large single-action Colt revolver, some claiming it was .41, others .44.
Billy Allen had left his house uptown and strolled down the Avenue. He stopped at the Tabor Grand Opera House to pick up theater tickets and get his shoes shined, and then went into the Monarch. After spending a few moments in the saloon, he was putting on his coat to continue down to Hyman’s when one of the proprietors, Cy Allen (no relation to Billy), warned him against hunting up Holliday just then. Billy Allen answered there would be no trouble and, with a careless air, walked out into the fading sunlight, striding down the boardwalk toward Hyman’s, the hands on the moon-faced clock that overlooked the Avenue to his right nearing 5 o’clock.Doc Holliday Last Words
Holliday was lounging by the cigar case when he laid eyes on Billy Allen through the plate glass window at the front of Hyman’s. He reached behind the counter for his Colt and stared at the door. Allen pushed it open, hesitating when a voice outside hailed him. Then he stepped across the threshold, about 6 feet distant, and Holliday leveled the six-shooter that had been dangling in his hand and pulled the trigger.
The first shot sailed over Allen’s head, shattered a pane of glass in the double doors and lodged in the door frame. Startled, Allen spun on his heel, intending to flee, but tripped over the threshold and pitched forward, landing on his hands and knees. The ex-policeman scrambled to get to his feet. Holliday leaned over the cigar case and, almost on top of the man who’d been the hunter only seconds earlier, fired again. This shot hit its mark. The bullet tore into Allen’s right arm from the rear about halfway between the shoulder and the elbow and passed clear through, severing an artery in its flight. Jolted upright, Allen stumbled outside. He staggered against the wall of Dave May’s clothing store next door. By now he was in shock and bleeding freely, and he fainted into the arms of an onlooker.Was Doc Holiday Sick
Holliday had only winged his bird and had been ready to fire again. But before he could squeeze the trigger for a third time, the bartender had rushed up to him from behind and clamped down on his gun hand. Captain Ed Bradbury, who’d given Allen a belated warning, then charged into the saloon and snatched the smoking Colt. Holliday immediately asked for protection, and Bradbury led him to the county jail. At the same instant, Cy Allen and other friends of Billy Allen loaded the wounded man into an express wagon and conveyed him to his house. Doctor F.F. D’Avignon was summoned. He could find no pulse in Billy Allen’s right arm, and concluded the artery was severed. As quickly as possible, he sewed it together.
In light of his justifiable fear of being extradited to Arizona Territory should he kill someone in Leadville, Holliday must have been certain he was defending himself against an assassin. And this was exactly the coloring he gave to the event. While waiting to be assigned a cell in the county jail, he told a reporter: “It was not about the $5. That was taken as a pretext. It is about the old trouble, and Allen was picked out as the man to kill me.” The reporter pressed him about the trouble in Arizona, and he replied: “I lived there and was for part of the time a peace officer, and all I ever did was forced on me and I was tried and honorably acquitted of. There are people in town who desire to murder me for notoriety….”
Holliday demonstrated the quick wit of a veteran gambler, making shrewd use of the press, emphasizing his past service as a lawman and subtly arguing the Tyler gang was after him for no legitimate reason. This scenario would play much better with prospective jurors than airing as a motive a vendetta among sporting men, in which the respectable populace would tend to view each side with equal disfavor.
And according to a news report only days later, Holliday was winning his case in the court of public opinion, if not of law. After District Court Judge William W. Old bound him over to appear at the next term of criminal court, the Leadville Daily Democrat‘s account of the hearing (August 26, 1884) closed with the following paragraph:
The public sentiment, however, which has nothing to do with the law, is largely in favor of Holliday—[he] has been without a doubt an abused individual. The manlier class of the community not only appreciate this, but have little criticism to make as to his actions in connection with his trouble with Allen. For whatever the latter’s intentions may have been, Holliday had reasons, whether or not they are good in law, for believing that past persecutions were to be concluded by a violent assault.
Whatever Billy Allen’s intentions were when he strode through the front door of Hyman’s, they had become irrelevant. For the record, the preponderance of testimony at Holliday’s hearing went to show that Allen was not armed, but by then the overriding Western credo of “no duty to retreat” had won the day with public sentiment. “No duty to retreat” was a belief, enacted in the laws of several states, that a man who was without blame for provoking a confrontation was not obliged to flee from his assailant but was free to stand his ground regardless of the consequences. As one state Supreme Court justice put it in 1877, “Indeed, the tendency of the American mind seems to be very strongly against the enforcement of any rule which requires a person to flee when assailed.” This implied, as American West historian Richard Maxwell Brown points out, that to flee under such circumstances would be cowardly and un-American.
Holliday faced a tortuous legal process, his popularity notwithstanding. He’d had similar experiences in other places—Texas, Arizona and New Mexico territories, and most recently in Denver and Pueblo. The day after the Allen shooting, Captain Bradbury swore out a warrant for his arrest, charging him with assault with intent to kill. He was taken to court, and bail was set at $5,000. John G. Morgan, proprietor of the Board of Trade saloon, and Colonel Sam Houston, one of the managers, signed on as Holliday’s sureties, and he was released. His freedom was short-lived, however.
When Holliday presented himself before Judge Old five days later, he was stunned to learn his bail had increased by $3,000. Bondsmen additional to Morgan and Houston were required, and at first no one stepped into the breach. Recognizing the possibility of serious consequences, the Daily Democrat of August 27, opined, “Should Holliday be obliged to remain behind bars up to the day of his trial it would probably go very hard with him, as his constitution is badly broken and he has been really sick for a long time past.”
One probable reason why the bond was raised to $8,000 was the questionable condition of the shooting victim, who turned out to be difficult to treat. “Billy Allen, shot by Doc Holliday, is on the mend, although it will be a much longer time than was first anticipated before he will be able to be out,” the Daily Democrat reported. “His arm is frightfully swollen from wrist to shoulder and exceedingly painful. The case has been a good deal complicated from the first by Allen’s inability to take narcotics with the required effect. Pain kept him awake and the heaviest doses of morphine simply caused him to become delirious.” Allen possessed a remarkable constitution, however, and as if to belie the gloomy prognostication, he was out on the street the very next day. The judge lowered Holliday’s bond to $5,000 again, but for some reason Morgan and Houston failed to post it until September 6.
The imbroglio over his bond caused him to be held for more than a week in the county jail, which, though preferable to the sinkhole where city prisoners languished, was not calculated to improve his health and was symptomatic of the dire straits in which he found himself. One is compelled to ask: If he could rustle up bondsmen to the tune of $5,000 among the gambling fraternity, where his reputation was sterling, why could he not have negotiated a loan of $5 to pay off Allen and avoided all this trouble? There is no definitive evidence, but one might suspect it was a matter of pride. He approached Sam Houston only days before the shooting but met with a rebuff. Once may have been enough. He would not want to advertise that he was down and out. He had already pawned his jewelry, and Allen had taken a gun from him and put it in hock as well. (Why this did not cancel the debt or if it applied to another debt, testimony at the August 25 hearing never made clear.) And once Allen had made threats in front of witnesses, Holliday could not admit they had cowed him. He must have felt he had no choice but to stand up to his persecutor. A gambler who showed the white feather was not long for his profession, and Holliday had proved his staying power for over a decade.
The trial, postponed until Friday, March 27, 1885, proved to be anticlimactic. Holliday’s attorneys, Scott Ashton and Joe Taylor, consumed the morning and afternoon of the first day

It’s pretty obvious right away that the XFL is not the NFL. From the rules to the players to the quality of play, no this is not the NFL, but the XFL isn’t trying to emulate the top football league in the world. However, I will say that this is closer to a professional football league than the corny league we saw in 2001. Professional football is all about entertainment and making money, of course, but the original XFL was trying to insert the wacky world of professional wrestling into football. That is not the case in the XFL 2020, though there are some differences to give the audience something to talk about. That’s especially true when it comes to the rules of the XFL vs the NFL.
*XFL Teams vs NFL Teams The XFL has certainly taken the right precautionary steps in terms of team locations, as the league has established franchises in some of the country’s biggest sports media markets. Of the seven biggest, the XFL has clubs ready to go in five of them for their return season.

There were some innovations in the original XFL that we saw the NFL adapt. The most notable of all is the overhead camera on the field, known as the sky cam. This was a revolutionary addition to football broadcasts at the time, but it’s so commonplace now that no one gives it much thought. That was a Vince McMahon idea that made its way over to the NFL. The XFL also introduced the idea of putting mics on players.
If I recall correctly, the dialogue on the field was transmitting to TV in real-time. The NFL doesn’t do that, but they do have certain players mic’d up that they’ll replay on NFL programming after the fact. The XFL is taking microphones a step further, with interviews taking place in-game on the sidelines. As far as other memorable additions the XFL had was a cheerleading camera in the locker room, which seemed something out of the WWE playbook, scripted and all. This rule was implemented with safety in mind by the XFL. The NFL is going to be watching to see if concussions on kickoffs decreases in the XFL. If that’s the case, don’t be surprised if the NFL steals this kickoff format from Vince McMahon’s league. The kickoff team and return team line up 5 yards apart in the receiving team’s side of the field on the 35-yard line and 30-yard line, while the kicker is in his normal position. Nobody is permitted to move besides the kicker and returner until the ball is caught. This takes away high speed collisions with players running at full speed into one another like in the NFL. In turn, we should see less concussions, and the XFL is hoping for some bigger plays from this as well.

The play clock in the NFL is 40 seconds. This provides the team with a good chunk of time to get settled if they’re not going with a hurry-up offense. This also allows teams to burn off a lot of clock if they have a lead late in games. Running the ball and killing the clock is a good strategy with a healthy lead in the 4th quarter (are you listening, Kyle Shanahan?). However, the XFL wants to speed things up and prevent teams from having the luxury of sitting on leads by draining the play clock out. The clock is only 25 seconds in the XFL, so offenses must go faster to keep things moving. This should translate to keeping fans more interested instead of having to wait over 30 seconds for a new play in the NFL. Think of hurry-up offenses in college and how fast they operate. The XFL is hoping that play resembles something like that. 3. Double Forward Pass
We are familiar with a lateral and pass behind the line of scrimmage in the NFL. It’s commonly used with the quarterback lateraling the ball to a running back or wide receiver, and then they pull the ball back for a pass. A flea flicker is perfectly legal in the NFL, too. What can’t happen is if the ball is passed forward, then the receiver cannot pass the ball again. It has to be a lateral first before another pass can be made, even if it’s behind the line scrimmage.
If the receiver catches the ball behind the line of scrimmage, and executes a pass, this is a perfectly legal play in the XFL. In other words, there can be two forward passes made behind the line of scrimmage in the XFL. There will be no debates if a quarterback threw a ball back instead of forward to a receiver in this league. Things should get pretty interesting, and offensive coordinators can get creative, with this wrinkle on offense.

For the longest time, the NFL PAT was automatic for kickers. All they needed to do was hit a 20-yard field for a point. That was moved back to a 33-yard field goal in 2015 to make things a bit more difficult and interesting. In the XFL, they’ve removed kickers from the equation altogether. Offenses must stay on the field and go for either a 1-point, 2-point, or 3-point play. It’s simple, if you want to try for 1-point, a play will be run from the 2-yard line. For teams that want to attempt 2 points, they will have to go from the 5-yard line. A 3-point play will have to be converted from the 10-yard line. With this in place, teams will be capable of pulling off some big comebacks in the XFL. 5. Running Game Clock
A running game clock on incomplete passes is not new to professional football. This is a play taken out of the Arena Football playbook. In the NFL, the clock will stop on incomplete passes. Conversely, the XFL will keep the clock running to speed the game up. Also keep in mind that the clock won’t pause when runners go out of bounds. However, with under 2 minutes remaining in the game, then the clock will stop on incompletions. 6. Overtime Rules
The NFL evolved ever so slightly when it came to overtime. They got rid of sudden death with a field goal in 2012, allowing both teams to get a chance to score if a field goal is the first points on the board. However, if a touchdown is scored by a team, then the game is done. A portion of fans have been bargaining for both teams getting an opportunity with the ball regardless if a touchdown is scored on the opening drive. There hasn’t been any movement in that regard yet, but the XFL is attempting to make those fans happy.
The XFL is utilizing a five-round “shootout” format resembling something from the NHL. Each team gets five plays from the 5-yard line to score a touchdown. If each team is tied after their five opportunities, then it will go to sudden death overtime. This provides a fast overtime that is decided quickly, and both teams will have a chance with the ball in their hands. Out of all the differences between the XFL and NFL, this might be my favorite of the bunch. 7. Comeback Period (2-minute warning)
Teams will not be able to run the clock out under the 2-minute warning. Along with the 25-second play clock, which hurts teams with leads in the 4th quarter, the comeback period is another nuisance that teams with leads must look out for. When a team runs the ball with under 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd and 4th quarter, the game clock will stop until the ball has been spotted and 5 seconds has run off the play clock. If a team has no timeouts remaining and they’re behind in the game, then this rule helps them out a lot. Of course, in the NFL, timeouts are the only way to stop the clock on running plays after the 2-minute warning hits. The XFL is attempting to find some games that have some comeback magic in them with this addition. 8. Player Interviews
The media is unable to talk to players while the game is taking place in the NFL. Sideline reporters are able to get updates, and talk to coaches at halftime, but there aren’t in-game interviews taking place in the NFL. The XFL, which is one of the closest things to the old league, is trying to bring fans closer to the game. Players are not off limits and will be approached during the game. That includes microphones on players and coaches, which will be available to fans live during broadcasts. With regards to the NFL, they have mic’d up players and coaches, but isn’t relayed to fans until employees and producers have time to go through the footage for NFL programming after the game. 9. Video Replay Review Transparency
This has to do with how the XFL chooses to be transparent and allow viewers to eavesdrop on the review process for plays. Fans watching games will have the opportunity to listen to the conversation between the official on the field and the booth. There is also a camera positioned inside the review booth for fans to watch the process. This is much better than the NFL. We get no feedback during the review process. Networks have hired former officials to go through it with fans, but they’re shunned from listening in on the booth as well.
For all of the criticism that has been levied against NFL officiating lately, they’d likely benefit from allowing fans to hear what’s going on during a review. That said, I’m not too confident in the NFL adopting this perspective. 10. Offensive Coordinator Microphones
The XFL loves to try and insert fans into the game as much as possible, hence player interviews during the game and mics on officials and in the review booth. Along with those innovations, the XFL wants fans to hear what plays are being called into the huddle. Communication between coaches and the quarterback is fair game in the XFL. That’s a big no-no in the NFL. Listening in to play calls is strictly forbidden and would result in heavy fines and loss of draft picks.
In the XFL, everyone, including fans are allowed to hear the offensive coordinator and his play call. Not only is this more immersive for fans, but this is also going to provide a headache for coaching staffs. This adds another thing to worry about when preparing for a game. It’s imperative that names for plays are changed up week-to-week. So, this does provide an interesting angle and more work for offensive coordinators as they prepare for their next opponent. In Conclusion
There are other differences between the NFL and XFL that I didn’t go over in the top ten. However, I think you will be most interested in watching out for those differences. For instance, each team has only two timeouts in a half compared to three in the NFL. Also, receivers only need one foot down instead of two. That follows the same rules as college football, which is intended to result in more offense.
I like a lot of these rules and quirks that the XFL has introduced. Notably, the overtime should be entertaining, and there isn’t going to be any complaining about getting a chance for the offense to touch the ball. The transparency during video replay reviews is a nice touch as well. All in all, I think the XFL did a great job of not getting too corny, though still finding ways to differentiate themselves from the NFL.
The end of the 2018 NFL season brought on the beginning of the Alliance of American Football — an upstart league that implemented slight rule changes compared to the NFL.

The league got off to a hot start, with broadcasts on CBS and NFL Network, and enough former college and NFL stars to attract fans to the eight teams – all of which are located in major cities that lack NFL teams.
However, funding issues are already rearing their ugly head for the league, with majority owner Tom Dundon announcing that the league might fold after just one season.

There’s no guarantee that either league will be sustainable long-term. After all, minor league football has been attempted in America before, and it has yet to stick. The object of Yahtzee is to score as many points as possible. Players score points by rolling five dice, up to three times per turn, and making various combinations. The game’s scorecard consists of 13 categories spread across upper and lower sections. The upper section contains six boxes, labeled 1-6, while the lower section contains five poker-influenced options (three of a kind, four of a kind, full house, small straight, and large straight), a Chance box, and a five of a kind (or Yahtzee) box.
